Readings to help you understand the difference between creative nonfiction and memoir, and to learn specific writing strategies such as montage, compression, and crafting compelling dialogue. Samples of published creative nonfiction stories will also be provided.
Eight writing prompts to get you started creating the raw material you'll need to write short and long-form creative nonfiction for publication
Videos on storytelling strategies and techniques to help you understand the myriad ways you can tell your story
One half-hour video chat session (via Google Video Chat) with Dr. Morris to discuss your questions and receive personal feedback on your writing prompt responses
One revision exchange by email with Dr. Morris where she provides detailed feedback and suggestions on an early stage draft generated by the writing prompts
Your Instructor
Dr. Morris has over a decade of college-level teaching experience in both universities and at writing workshops and retreats, as well as 22 years of publishing experience. She specializes in helping adults write for publication from brainstorming, providing writing prompts, and having one-on-one discussions to revision feedback, helping you learn how to find publications, and then encouraging you to actually submit your work to publishing outlets of your choice.
